A man was swept away by the strong current of the Ganga at Belur Jagannath Ghat while bathing in the river, triggering panic among people present at the spot. The incident occurred after floodwaters suddenly surged through the area. According to local sources, the man was identified as 35-year-old Gulab. Visuals of the incident were captured on camera as he struggled in the river current.
According to local residents, Gulab had gone down to the ghat with several others to bathe in the river when the water level and current suddenly increased. While the others managed to return safely to the riverbank, Gulab was unable to make his way back and began drifting in the current. People present at the ghat raised alarms as he struggled to stay afloat in the water.
Seeing the situation, a young man immediately jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue him. According to the latest information, the rescuer swam a considerable distance through the strong current, managed to reach Gulab and brought him back safely to the riverbank. Local authorities and rescue personnel later began monitoring the area following the incident.
